Cleveland, October 2026 - Fairmount Medical Innovation LLC (FMI) presented the BiTAT Bidirectional Transition Airway at the Penn State Venture and IP Conference on October 1st and 2nd. Chief Executive Officer Mike Bass and Chief Operating Officer Bill Mutch introduced the device to investors, technology-transfer professionals and industry attendees.

The BiTAT device, also published as the A/Z Airway, was invented by anesthesiologists Rafi Avitsian, MD, and Andrew Zura, MD. It is a patented supraglottic airway that lets clinicians move a patient between above-the-glottis and endotracheal ventilation, in either direction, with a ventilating device in place throughout. In a 53-patient preliminary clinical study, the device achieved successful placement and ventilation in every patient.

Bill Mutch, COO
“Difficult-airway guidelines call for steps that clinicians have no purpose-built tool for. The BiTAT device is designed to be that tool.”
